Light the DarknessWinter 2009-10 Grassroots Events to Benefit KITH
LIGHT THE DARKNESS is a winter grassroots, community effort to help those facing the crisis of homelessness by raising both awareness and funds at benefit events privately organized and held by individuals and companies. Events happen during the darkest months of the year between Thanksgiving and mid-January. This 2009-2010 season, four events were held. On February 2, KITH held our First Annual Light the Darkness Event Host Reception, celebrating 2009-2010 event hosts. Thanks to 2009-2010 Light the Darkness event hosts who raised $1350 plus $400 of in-kind donations to benefit KITH's programs helping homeless families on the eastside. he eastside. They lit the candle....can't wait until next year to see the fire grow! Thanks also to The Heathman Hotel for supporting the reception in their beautiful Trellis lounge. In 2009-10 you lit the spark! We can’t wait to see what the community will do to fan the flame to Light the Darkness in 2010-11! WHEN DOES IT HAPPEN? Community Leaders sign up to host an event of their choice between December 10th and January 10th. Each leader commits to a $100 donation to KITH when they sign up, to invite at least 9 of their friends to donate to KITH at the event, and to send photos from the event to KITH with the donations they collect. From December 10, 2009 – January 10, 2010, Community Leaders host benefit events of their choosing. It might be a bike ride followed by breakfast, a fancy sit-down dinner, a ferry ride, a tailgating party before their favorite team’s game, a cocktail hour, or a Sudoku-thon … the sky’s the limit! The only stipulations are: (1) the event happens by Jan 10th, 2010, (2) at least 9 guests attend, and (3) each guest joins the host and makes a donation to KITH, supporting our mission to help those facing homelessness. See what kind of an impact your group can make. Have fun with a purpose! WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE EVENTS? From Jan 11th - Jan 12th, each Community Leader brings in or mails to KITH the donations and any comments from their guests, and brings or emails photos from their event to KITH. Photos will be posted on KITH’s new Facebook page, which will go “live” on February 1, 2010. HOW WILL WE CELEBRATE THE SUCCESS OF LIGHT THE DARKNESS? On Groundhog Day, February 2, 2010, Community Leader event hosts will be invited to gather with a guest, KITH Staff and KITH’s Board of Directors for Happy Hour from 5-7 PM.
